EXPLORING FLOWERS: EXPRESSIVE REALIST DRAWING AND PAINTING TECHNIQUES

  • Portland, OR 97213 United States (map)

11:00am- 12:30 pm MONDAYS MARCH 13th, 20th, & APRIL 3rd, & 10th

Flowers are the epitome of fleeting beauty. Let’s immortalize their ephemeral beauty and magic through careful observation, intentional, yet playful precision. Learn expressive realism drawing and painting techniques through the lens of the natural world.

This is a 4 week class, each week we build on the previous session;

Week 1: Understanding the structure of flowers. Drawing flowers from observation, graphite & charcoal on paper

Week 2: Understanding how light falls over flowers. Identifying the tonal relationships through underpainting and direct painting techniques.

Week 3: Focus on keying chroma, the color relationships within flowers.

Week 4: Transitions, edges, bring it all together through final touches, re-keying high contrast areas, and punching up lights.

BRING your own materials (materials list will be emailed to you once you sign up).

I will also offer materials for a fee. Paper & graphite pencils are free at Darshan Studio : )
